AASP’s Student Social Justice Initiative, Diversity Committee, International Relations Committee, and Advocacy Committee are delighted to announce the 2020 Student Social Justice Forum, Roundtable Talks, & IGNITE Program on Wednesday, June 3rd, 1:00 – 3:30 pm, Eastern Time. The virtual forum will foster personal and professional growth of students interested in entering the sport and exercise psychology (SEP) field by encouraging dialogue around diversity, inclusion, social justice and advocacy issues within applied SEP settings. This year’s forum will include a panel of presenters committed to matters of advocacy and social justice, followed by Roundtables and the Ignite Program. The year’s featured presenters include: Dr. Angel Brutus, Director of Counseling and Sport Psychology, Mississippi State Athletics; Dr. Lani Lawrence, Director of Mental Health, NY Giants; Dr. Dolores Christensen, Assistant Director of Psychological Resource for OU Student-Athletes, University of Oklahoma Athletics; and Dr. Cristina Rolo, Co-Founder and Owner, Rolo Mental Coaching.
After the presentation, attendees will have the chance to participate in one of two roundtables. The first roundtable will focus on a issue related to LGBTQ+ social justice and advocacy within applied SEP settings. The second roundtable will focus on international relations and social justice within applied SEP from a global perspective.
The forum will conclude with the IGNITE Program. The IGNITE Program brings together a diversity of speakers from the sport industry offering “The Ignite Program brings together a group of diverse speakers from the sport industry offering students and early career professionals of color who hold various cultural identities (LGBTQQI, race, ethnicity, class, gender, ability, and religion) with a personal and professional development experience that will enhance their careers in SEP. Attendees can expect the following
- Develop and hone leadership skills.
- Discuss career goals and learn about ways to increase professional opportunities.
- Network with leaders in sport.
The forum and IGNITE program are free and open to students and early career professionals who are interested in careers in applied SEP settings. Participation is the Student Social Justice Forum is not limited to AASP members or those involved in the IGNITE Program.
